What Are the Best Treatments for Acne?

When it comes to acne, there is no simple answer. While one treatment may work for one person it may do nothing for another. Unfortunately that is not an answer so what we’ve done is put together several different treatment options that are available to people who are suffering from acne.
Depending on who you ask, there are two options that can work. You can go down the natural route, or the chemical route.

The chemical route can make people uneasy – what is it that you’re putting into your body exactly? The thing is though, if you go to a doctor and they know your symptoms, they can prescribe you a chemical treatment that is specifically for your symptoms.

Chemical treatments include:

  • The contraceptive pill
  • Topical creams
  • Antibiotics
  • Steroid Creams

Some of these can work amazingly well but you must be aware that they can have side effects. For example, topical creams can sensitize your skin quite a lot, meaning that you cannot actually leave your skin exposed to the sun. They can also be very drying on your skin so need to be used in limited amounts.

The pill can re-balance hormones that have gone out of sync, through puberty or other changes. While it can be a great treatment for a lot of people, the extra hormones can affect some people badly. It can result in weight gain (an increased appetite), mood swings, and high blood pressure but could also be a great fit for you.

While chemical treatments don’t always have to be prescribed by a doctor, you can get some in the drug store: the most popular and most widely used acne treatment product; benzyl peroxide also spelled as benzoyl peroxide. It should be used in limited amounts as it can be extremely drying on your skin but can start to clear breakouts in as little as a few hours!

Some doctors push the more natural remedies which include, increased water intake, reduced saturated fat intake or greasy food intake, keeping skin clean and to not touch your acne affected area with unclean hands. They can also suggest to improve your intake of fresh vegetables and fruit. By lowering processed sugar intake, it can be said that your skin can benefit.

It depends on the severity of your acne which treatment you decide on but do remember to talk to a doctor before you try any of the chemical treatments. It may take trying a few different options before you find one that fits you, but eventually you will!
